A “typical” Sunday in Allapattah

So you think you can dance?

Well, at Club Tipico you can show off your bachata, salsa, merengue or reggaeton moves seven days a week — always for fun, and sometimes for cash.

This is the spot in Allapattah, a.k.a Little Santo Domingo, where locals have been coming to do something typically Dominican — eat, drink and dance — since 1984.

Luis De La Cruz founded Club Tipico the year before his daughter Jasmely was born, and, 34 years later, they run the business as partners. You might even catch them on the dance floor together.

QUOTABLE: “It’s a place for grandmothers and millennials and anything in between,” says Jasmely D. Jackson.

Even though Luis is officially retired, he’s there every day.
