Destress and refresh in North Beach

There ain’t no party like a South Beach party, but when it’s time to destress, it’s best to head to North Beach. The north side of Miami’s beaches offers all the amenities, twice the natural beauty, and a much chiller vibe than South Beach. Whether you need some nature, a little pampering or just a break from the day-to-day, we’ve planned a staycation getaway day in Surfside, Sunny Isles, and Bal Harbour to get you relaxed and refreshed.

If you’re up for pedal-powered travel, you can snag a CitiBike at Station 403, near 96th Street. This entire itinerary is less than 9 miles round-trip, and the longest stretch is a four-and-a-half mile cruise back from Sunny Isles to Bal Harbour.

Rise and shine, and play outside

Start your morning off right at Miami’s best Jewish deli done wrong. At Josh’s Deli, owner/chef Josh Marcus offers classic deli delights made with fresher ingredients, creative twists (a softshell crab croissant, octopus and grits, spicy tuna latkes), and homemade everything (yes, even the bagels). The vibe is extra chill and the breakfast is just plain extra. It’s going to be a fun day, so don’t even worry about counting those carbs.

No matter how you like to play, your morning’s sure to be a blast at Haulover Park. This urban paradise offers no shortage of activities to help you burn off that bagel and while away a couple of hours in the sun and surf. Rent a paddleboard or kayak to take a spin through the beautiful waters of Biscayne Bay or even out to the Haulover Sandbar, which is always lit on the weekends.

If you’re more of a land lubber, Skyward Kites on the bay side the has an incredible selection of bright and beautiful flying devices that bring a whole new meaning to catching a breeze. For beach bums, you’ll find something unique at both ends of the park. The southernmost section turns into a dog beach on the weekends, so it’s a great place to meet up with your pals with pups or to make new four-legged friends. The northern section of the park is Miami’s most famous naturist (a.k.a. clothing optional) beach for those of you avoiding tan lines.

Experience the luxe life

When you’ve had your fill of exploring nature, head a couple miles north to the Trump International Beach Resort, to experience the sort of luxe Miami afternoon all the tourists write home about. Kick off your resort adventure with a midday meal right on the sand at Gili’s Beach Club. During Miami Spice, you can snag three delicious courses for just $23 including a fresh buffalo mozzarella app with heirloom tomatoes and watermelon, perfectly seared skirt steak or salmon, and a strawberry shortcake that’s sure to sweeten up your afternoon. During Miami Spa Month, book a signature massage at Aquanox Spa for a special rate of $109 to max out your relaxin’. The spa features saunas, steam rooms, and showers, plus access to the beach club if you just can’t get enough of that vitamin sea.

Raise a glass

With all your tensions melted away, head back south to the St. Regis Bar to cap off your day with a cool handcrafted cocktail fit for the queen you are. We recommend the white linen, a refreshing gin and cucumber concoction, or the lychee martini, with a tart twist of Belvedere pink grapefruit vodka, both of which sing summer in every sip. The bar also offers one of the most impressive collections of wine and champagne on the beach, plus a menu of fresh sushi and live music to energize your evening and have you feeling fine again.
