Meet Doral’s newest place to play, Doral Legacy Park

Doral’s newest place to play, Doral Legacy Park, is officially debuting this Saturday, August 12 with a massive, family-friendly grand opening.

The park has been in the works for three years, and for good reason. Located at the corner of NW 82nd Street and 114th Avenue, it’s offering up amenities that will have our local Leslie Knopes swooning.

Construction officially began November 19, 2014, and it took about 10 months of cleaning up contaminated soil and ensure every square foot of the site was safe and ready for play. Now, this former vacant lot is decked out with more than 18 acres of gardens, playgrounds, sports facilities, a freaking bandshell, and, yes, even a splash pad.

Northwest 114th Avenue bisects the park, and a pedestrian bridge safely connects the recreation center to the sports fields and tennis courts.

Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect:

Community Center Amenities

  • Indoor basketball gymnasium
  • Exercise track
  • Recreation room
  • Aerobics/dance room
  • Event hall
  • Conference room
  • Arts & crafts room
  • Senior citizens room

Park Amenities

  • Football/soccer field
  • Softball field
  • Tennis courts
  • Basketball courts
  • Sand volleyball courts
  • Children’s playground
  • Bandshell/events lawn
  • Walking and running paths

(Plus, lots o’ free parking).

The grand opening will take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and everyone’s invited. The New Tropic will be there with our friends from Baptist Health South Florida, an early partner and sponsor of the park, which will be offering up family-friendly games and performances, as well as free health screenings. Baptist Health is also sponsoring weekly zumba and yoga classes to keep residents fit and having fun.

Besides hanging with us and finding out how swole you really are, enjoy some BBQ, check out the dominos tournament, try some drills and demos on the sports fields, and hear live music from local cover bands, as well as current and former America’s Got Talent contestants like Angelina Green and Daniella Mass, and other Doral artists.

Come check it out while you can still smell the fresh paint! We’ll see you there.
