Celebrate and Educate on Earth Day with The Miami Beach EDITION
This Earth Day, The Miami Beach EDITION invites you to an evening of eco-friendly celebration and education on the current state of our beloved planet’s climate. The event will be a celebration of various environmentally conscious initiatives the hotel currently participates in, as well as kick-off some new ones. Join the resort and its host committee at Tropicale on April 22 from 5pm to 11pm in raising funds benefiting Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter, a non-profit organization founded by surfers dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches, specifically with its current initiative, Ban The Bag.
EDITION Hotels worldwide has committed to environmental initiatives in 2017, which include recycling all soaps and shampoos that are distributed to developing countries through the Clean The World, ongoing bi-monthly beach cleanups, and eliminating single-use plastics in the food and beverage outlets. By April 22, 2017, The Miami Beach EDITION will be completely free of plastic water bottles and be replaced by JUST Water, 100% spring water in a paper-based bottle, which focuses on investing in communities while reducing its eco-footprint.
A series of activations will be held poolside, from sustainability education to pop-up shops by Gee Beauty, Maiyet and Raw Elements. In the Sandbox the documentary, Before The Flood, produced in part by Leonardo DiCaprio with National Geographic, will be screened in addition to a wildlife photography installation by Render Loyalty, which captures threatened species in the wild. Photographer KT Merry will have a book signing with all purchases directly supporting threatened species conservation in Africa.
Guests will receive a drink token upon arrival with their suggested $30 donation to Surfrider and enjoy vegetarian cuisine by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. In addition, the hotel will host a beach cleanup led by Surfrider and EDITION before the event begins, as well as have a coconut stand for guests to hydrate and enjoy. Music for the evening will be provided by famed DJs Goldcap, Sainte Vie, Lemurian, Eli Light and Courtney Scott. The after-party continues at Basement with beats by hip-hop legend Grandmaster Flash starting at 11pm.
Host committee members include: Ben Pundole of EDITION, Michael Laas of Sustainable Futures Group; Mark Gamez of F1RST Surf Shop Co.; Myk Likhov of Modern ŌM, The 7, and Mindfulness Festival; Michael Ortiz of JoJo Tea; Seth Browarnik of World Red Eye; Karelle Levy of KREL, Aramis Lorie and Jake Jefferson of Poplife, Caiti Pomerance of Debris Free Oceans; Megan Riley of The Bass Museum of Art; Belkys Nerey of WSVN Channel 7; Cristina Mas; Esther Park of YoungArts; Heather Kleisner; Chris Adamo & Randi Wolfson-Adamo; Jerome Duran; Violet Camacho of Haute Living; Anita Braham of PAMM.
