Jazz at MOCA: Carlos Averhoff Jr.
Latin Grammy nominated Cuban tenor saxophonist and contemporary Afro-Cuban Jazz composer, Carlos Averhoff Jr., will perform at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami’s monthly “Jazz at MOCA” series. As a composer, Averhoff has a unique approach of connecting his jazz compositions with his Cuban culture. All About Jazz names Averhoff “a dynamic fresh new voice on the saxophone” and Latin Jazz Network portrays his playing as “quite extraordinarily expressive and beautiful.”
Averhoff has collaborated with drummers Louis Hayes, Jimmy Cobb, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez and Calixto Oviedo, pianists Jason Moran, Chucho Valdes, Roberto Fonseca and Alexis Bosch, saxophonists Dave Liebman, Greg Osby, Bill Pierce and Paquito D’Rivera and singers Isaac Delgado and Augusto Enriquez. He also appears on Latin Grammy nominated recordings with Omara Portuondo and Buena Vista Social Club, Manuel “Guajiro” Mirabal, Roberto Fonseca’s Temperamento, and many more.
The public is invited to come sit under the stars and enjoy the Cuban rhythms of Averhoff. The museum galleries will be open by donation from 7–10 p.m.
