Performance of David Lang’s “little match girl passion” at PAMM
IlluminArts, Miami’s Art Song and Vocal Chamber Music Series, is thrilled to announce the upcoming presentation of David Lang’s 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning composition, “the little match girl passion” inspired by the highly anticipated Doris Salcedo exhibition at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Renowned director R.B. Schlather will direct the performance. The New York Times has described Schlather as “having a gift at drawing out vivid performances,” and Opera News declared, “Schlather created an intense, accessible, immersive experience that illuminated the emotional heart of [the] work….the entire theatrical experience, taken as a whole, was revelatory.” The staging will be created as a live performance event over one week in the museum from May 27 – 31, with rehearsals open to museum visitors, creating a spontaneous interplay of process and audience, and culminating in a free public presentation June 2, 2016 at 7:00PM. With an all-star cast led by soprano Anne Carolyn Bird, this collaboration promises to explode perceptions of how classical music can be consumed in the 21st century, and brings a world-class musical event to South Florida audiences.
