Planetary Poems with O, Miami Poetry Festival
When science and literature collide, it’s poetry in motion.
That’s the premise behind “Planetary Poems,” a project created by O, Miami and Frost Science, in collaboration with Topos Graphics and The Library of Congress Poetry and Literature Center, as part of the O, Miami Poetry Festival.
In an unforgettable evening, United States Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith will have her poetry animated inside the unique space of the Frost Planetarium. Designed by Topos Graphics, each animated poem will “constellate” against the night sky as Smith reads it.
The evening’s program includes:
- Voice-over by Tracy K. Smith
- Live readings of the Tracy K. Smith poems used for the project
- A discussion with Rob Casper, Head of the Library of Congress Poetry and Literature Center
- A demonstration of the planetarium’s capabilities by Dr. Jorge Perez-Gallego, Frost Science Curator of Astronomy
Admission to Planetary Poems is $10 per person ($8 for Frost Science members). Tickets include beverages prior to the program (6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.). Program begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. Seating is first-come, first-served.
