Stravinksy’s Petrushka – MMF Concerto Competition Winners’ Concert with the MMF Orchestra

Featuring the MMF Concerto Competition Winners

Joel Smirnoff, Conductor

Each season, the Miami Music Festival hosts a symphony concert devoted entirely to winners of the MMF Concerto Competition. Multiple winners are featured as soloists alongside the MMF Orchestra for one movement of a standard concerto. This season, the winners will perform a concerto with the MMF Symphony Orchestra. Finishing off the program is Stravinsky’s Petrushka, his second collaboration with Ballets Russes after Firebird. The story revolves around a deadly love triangle between puppets who suddenly come to life — Petrushka, a ballerina, and a Moor.

Miami Music Festival presents their 2018 season from June 5th to July 29th, which will host 250 students from over 25 countries selected from the most prestigious conservatories and universities. The Festival consists of institutes in orchestra, opera, piano, and conducting, as well as the pioneering Career Institute.
