Volunteer: Inspire305 gives back at Opa-locka Urban Farm
Join Inspire305 for a morning of gardening, painting and planting healthy produce at the Opa-locka Urban Farm!
Opa-locka, a Miami-Dade community, is considered one of Miami’s food deserts. With only two discount grocery stores to serve its 16,000 residents, local fast food and corner stores have become a quick and easy way for our neighbors to pick up pre-packed, processed and quickly prepared — yet mostly unhealthy — foods.
Let’s help keep Opa-locka’s Urban Farm garden thriving by giving back. Clean, dig and plant, all while learning more about food deserts and how together we can inspire change.
The day will kick off with a guided tour of the historic Opa-locka City Hall and the surrounding Moorish Revival architecture — so make sure you’re there on time!
Remember to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable, outdoor clothing. Breakfast, snacks and landscaping gloves will be provided.
