Finding food where you least expect it

Miami has a surprisingly strong flora game—including, to our great batido delight, an incredible variety of tropical edibles. Tiffany Noe and George Echevarria run Plantmatter, a “multidisciplinary plant project” that grows vegetables for local restaurants, sells seedlings and helps people connect with South Florida’s plant landscape. They recently published Forager: A Subjective Guide to Miami’s Edible Plants (with text by Nick Vagnoni), with new local publishing house Jai-Alai Books (from the good people behind O, Miami). We caught up with them to learn about their story, and about how one forages for local Miami food.
