Ideas to celebrate Mother’s Day in Miami

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 12. Here are a few ideas to celebrate the mother and mother figures in your life:

CELEBRATE OUTDOORS

Grab a bike and take mom on a bike ride on one of South Florida’s paved trails. You could head out to Shark Valley in the Everglades for a nature-filled adventure or explore the heavily-shaded Old Cutler Trail that runs through Coral Gables.

How to try it: Shark Valley offers bike rentals for $9 an hour on a first-come, first-served basis. The Florida Rambler blog features a good overview of Old Cutler Trail and provides parking tips.

On Saturday, you can enjoy a concert under the moonlight at the Barnacle Under Moonlight Concert on the lawn of the peaceful Barnacle Historic State Park. B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Cooler) and listen to the folksy music of the Solar Dogs, a South Florida band.

How to try it: Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for kids 6 to 9. Kids under 6 get free admission.

CELEBRATE WITH FOOD

Pack a picnic (try this super easy and colorful Tabbouleh Primavera recipe) and head to the Instagram-worthy Deering Estate. The estate offers inspiring art and history exhibits, historic home tours, and paths to explore Miami’s natural settings.

How to try it: Estate admission is $15 for adults, $7 for kids 4 to 14.

If your mom’s scene is more tablecloth and champagne bubbles, Miami Food Pug has a roundup of brunch specials.

How to try it: Make a reservation and add champagne.

CELEBRATE WITH ANIMALS

At Miami Seaquarium, mom will get in for free if you bring a Mother’s Day card for the animals at the Seaquarium. They also have a money-saving deal on their animal encounters – mom gets to hang with the dolphins (or maybe swim with the seals) for free with the purchase of a full-price participant.

How to try it: The deal is good today through Mother’s Day. Purchase tickets at the gate.

Jungle Island also offers free park admission for mom on Mother’s Day. Plus, they’ll have a pop-up outdoor spa with à la carte services available. And if you’re a mom looking to treat yourself, consider this: Jungle Island is offering free daycare for kids 5 to 12 years old, available on Mother’s Day only.

How to try it: The deal is good only on Mother’s Day. Purchase tickets at the gate.
