Need to cool off in Miami? Look to West Kendall’s ice arena

THE NEIGHBORHOOD: West Kendall

WHAT: Kendall Ice Arena, Miami-Dade county’s only ice sports center, opened its doors in West Kendall almost 20 years ago.

THE STORY: At this West Kendall spot, the temperature always runs below 50 degrees. They offer ice hockey and figure skating training programs, summer camps as well as ice skating classes for all ages and levels: from tots to adults. The arena has two ice rinks separated by an arcade. One rink is used mainly for classes and training and the other for leisure, which features a live DJ on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Kendall Ice Arena will celebrate its 20-year anniversary in 2020.

FUN FACT: Robby McNamara, an ice skating instructor at Kendall Ice Arena, competed at three Four Continents Championships and won the Australian national title in the 2009–10 season.
