In our guide to Little Haiti, we’re exploring the are spanning from NW 54th St. through NW 79th St. — celebrating the patchwork of people and places that make up these vibrant neighborhoods.
As you walk through the neighborhood, you might encounter signs that read, “Welcome to Lemon City,” a name with a history older than the City of Miami itself. Throughout the 1980s, many Haitian immigrants made Lemon City their new home, transforming the area into a cultural mecca for the diaspora.
Just to the north, the neighborhood Little River has been around since the 1800s, though the two neighborhoods share much of the same history, population, and energy. That’s why we’re exploring both in this guide. Come along with us.
