Locals to know: Meet Alan Bebchik, one of the many faces helping Miamians waste less and care more about the environment

Today’s Locals to Know feature is sponsored by The Rounds, a new-to-Miami zero-waste refill and delivery service for the stuff you use every day: think kitchen, bathroom, toiletries, your everyday necessities. (And down below, you’ll find a code for a free year of delivery!)

Tell us about your work — your job and/or any volunteer work.

I am the General Manager at The Rounds, Miami’s first zero-waste delivery service. When I am not at work, I volunteer my time on the planning and zoning board in the town I live in, Bay Harbor Islands. I love keeping connected with my roots as a civil engineer while giving back to the community I call home.

What’s your favorite Miami memory?

Going to the Women’s March with my daughters here in Miami. Seeing them holding signs while walking on a parade and having hundreds of people cheering at them was priceless.

Pick a favorite local outdoor experience. What is it? What’re we doing? Who’s going with ya?

Miami has a lot to offer, but I enjoy most activities in the water or at the beach. I am a regular kayaker at Virginia Key or Oleta River.

What’s your favorite local Instagram or TikTok account and why?

I love @beyondsouthbeach. It is an account by two siblings showcasing all the good eats, local, and small businesses outside of the tourist areas.

If you could eat only one meal from a local restaurant for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I love the Chivito Uruguayo at Narbona. It is a thin filet mignon sandwich topped with ham, cheese, bacon, sunny side up eggs, lettuce, tomato and mayo. It comes with a side of fries and it is just perfect. For dessert, I have to go with the dulce de leche crepes. Amazing combo.

What’s a project you’re working on (big or small) and how can our readers help you with it?

Right now I am laser-focused on growing the Rounds’ember base in Miami. Our goal is to reduce packaging trash and ocean plastic, and we can have the biggest impact together! If any of the New Tropic readers are eco-friendly, we would love for them to try The Rounds and help make Miami more sustainable one round at a time.

What are you looking forward to this year?

I am looking forward to the soccer world cup in Qatar this year. Hopefully, this is the year Messi and Argentina win the cup! If I can score some tickets you will see me there cheering for my home country of Argentina. I was at the 2014 world cup in Brazil and loved the experience of being in a world cup and connecting with fans all over the world.

That’s it for today’s spotlight on a local worth knowing. Wanna try out The Rounds for a year? New Tropic readers who sign up by March 31 get one free year of delivery with code TROPIC at therounds.co. Do it!
