It’s no secret Miami’s famous for the way we transform our bodies. Tattoos, piercings, plastic surgery, fitness trends – Although they all seem like modern obsessions, body modifications go way back. So when the Frost Art Museum FIU was lent Pre-Columbian sculptures (from about 200 BC-1500 AD) featuring piercings, markings and cranial modifications, they thought it only appropriate to juxtapose the works with contemporary transformations of the human body.

Their works will be on display at Frost Art Museum FIU’s “Pierce, Mark, Morph” exhibit now through February 12.
