Meet our member: Irena Taneva

Irena Tavena

We’re continuing our series on the people who make what we do possible — our supporting members. ❤️ Today we’re featuring El Portal’s Irena Taneva.

Where in town might people run into you? The Citadel – I live and work nearby and whether it is for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine it seems to be my most convenient pick. Not to mention they do have one of the best happy hours! You can’t beat that! 😉

What local business do you think deserves a shoutout? HGAB Studios – My most fav creative co-working space that speaks human! Every month they run Meet Your Muse photographer and model meet up when visual artists and models/influencers get to create inside one of their carefully curated monthly installations. Super cool, you should check it out!

And Cream Parlor in the Upper East Side 🙂 Because you can feel the love at the moment you step in. From the friendly welcoming to the precisely collected and arranged vintage furniture. Have a lavender lemonade over a lovely chat with Johnny and a must treat shall be the unicorn poop ice cream! Winner!

What’s a local event you went to recently that you loved? AXEN Club meeting – It is a goal support group that meets weekly to hold members accountable to achieve their dreams. Everyone in the group is super supportive and encouraging! Great for people struggling with crossing things off their bucket list!

What made you decide to become a member of The New Tropic? I get so excited receiving the newsletter (blush) I might as well support one of my favorite sources of information for the events in the city and more.

What’s something you’re working on that you could use help with? I am a yoga teacher and I run a six-day yoga retreat in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala in Nov. 2 to 8. The retreat is called Reawaken and Realign as the idea behind it is a complete disconnection with the outer and connection with the inner world. The retreat will be held in beautiful Yoga Forest Center located on a cliff overlooking towards the lake and the mountains. It’s a beautiful place filled with fresh clean crisp air, a pristine lake, and the presence of beautiful volcanic mountains. The retreat place does not have internet and the location itself is a true vortex filled with healing energy.  I could use help with spreading the word.

If you only have one meal left in Miami, where are you going? Roasted cauliflower at KYU!!! The goat cheese and cilantro combo does some sort of magic to my taste buds!

What’s a recent story you’ve read about Miami that you wish more people cared about? I do swing dance and every week my swing dance group and I go to different jazz spots to dance. Last week we ended up going to the Historic Hampton House, an iconic motel and lounge.  So my story is about Keith Clarke who had helped launch the jazz and blues program at the Hampton House.

What’s your perfect day in our city? Wake up with my bulletproof coffee enjoying the water view from my deck. Go take a yoga class with Annan at Skanda Yoga in Brickell. Then drive to Key Biscayne for a bike ride and finish up with watching the sunset from the lighthouse at Bill Baggs Park.

What does it mean to you to live like you live here? To have the majority of the people I meet being able to pronounce the ‘R’ in my name.

What are you celebrating in your life right now? Two things: My bday month lol yes, I am Bulgarian, I go big!  And welcoming a dual nationality!
