Hey there, Anastasia! What do you do around town?

I’m an artist and photographer. I work as a freelancer.

How does Miami help you do what you do or influence your work?

Miami is a central subject in two of my long-term photographic projects, FloodZone and Floridas. As a documentary photographer, I reflect on what is around me. For the past six years, my focus has been our city.

Wax poetic for a minute and tell us: what brings you most alive about this city?

I love that I’m not the only person with an accent here.

What is your favorite Miami memory?

For me, it was seeing a manatee for the first time. We were walking from school with my son and there it was in Indian Creek. Astonishing!

What’s your favorite local social media account to follow and why?

@onlyindade because it is funny.

If you could eat only one meal from a local restaurant for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Sushi from Katana, my neighborhood restaurant. I’m hesitant to share this out loud because I don’t want the lines to get even longer.

Outside of the obvious stop above, share your other top three destinations for where you’d go on your perfect Miami day.

The ocean for a swim in the morning, PĂ©rez Art Museum Miami while it’s hot outside, and an evening of galleries for exhibition openings.

What’s an unpopular opinion you have about the city?

I wish everyone were on board with using blinkers.

If you could give any one piece of advice to locals, what would it be?

Show up for cultural events. There are many opportunities to engage with the artistic community in Miami, and they’re among some of the most enriching!

What are you looking forward to through the end of this year?

I’m excited to release a number of limited edition pieces with Commissioner, a local initiative that provides access to art to emerging collectors. I’m also looking forward to my exhibition at Dot Fiftyone Gallery in December in Miami, and to three solo shows of my Floridas work in Europe in 2023.
