"JACOB FELLĂ„NDER: How to Unlock a Portal" at MOCA. North Miami Basels too.

UNLOCK THE VAULT WITH US

WeWork is unlocking its new space in a historic bank in the heart of downtown tonight with tunes from Patrick & the Swayzees, bites from Fooq’s, drinks from 1306, and us.

We’ll be there from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., kicking off another Basel night right. Find all the deets to join us here.

From there, our Miami Art Week events guide will point you in the right direction. Follow along from WeWork to PAMM Presents on our Insta account. (And come say hi if you’re there, too!)

Made Possible by WeWork

WHAT'S NEW IN THE 305

Made it. If you need further proof that the Miami River District is officially bumpin’, here it is: Wynwood fave Gramps is opening a spot, called Gramps by the Sea, on the river. (The Real Deal)

Break. The Miami Open tennis tournament might be leaving town. Earlier this year the county voted to allow it to break its lease with Crandon Park, which the tourney said was too restrictive, and move over to Hard Rock Stadium. But after some last-minute additions to the deal from the county, the Miami Open team says it’s “regrouping” and it’s not looking good for Miami-Dade. (Miami Herald)

OMW. Tally is working on a stronger texting-while-driving law that would allow police officers to ticket people without needing another reason to pull them over. It used to come with just a $20 fine and no points on your driving record. As distracted driving accidents and deaths rise, this sounds like a good move, but black lawmakers warn it could lead to racial profiling. (Miami Herald)

History lesson. First Tarrell McCraney brought us Oscar-winning Moonlight. Now he’s bringing the story of segregation walls via an art installation in Liberty City. He’ll be teaming up with nonprofit Arts for Learning/Miami to tell the story of the walls built throughout the U.S., including here, to separate blacks and whites in the Jim Crow era. (Miami Herald)

Esta candela. Pérez Art Museum Miami namesake and megadeveloper Jorge Pérez has accused Miami-Dade County of “punishing” the museum for honoring Cuban artists. Earlier this year the county shifted $550,000 in the county budget from PAMM to the new Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, and Perez says it was “an orchestrated move.” (Miami Herald)

YAS KWEEN. Local Maxeme Tuchman just took home a BIG award: Toyota named her its 2017 Mother of Invention for her work with Caribu, the company she cofounded. Caribu allows parents to read books to their children even when they’re away, and the award is a big enough deal that it made to the New York Times.

THAT’S ALL FOR TODAY.

For those of you already tired of Basel, this one’s for you.
