Gotta get the viejitos. It may be the digital age, but the way to win an election in the City of Miami is still good old-fashioned door knocking. The Miami Herald followed the candidates as they hit the pavement, sweating their way to the city commission. (Miami Herald)

All the cinnamon rolls. The rest of the U.S. knows it’s fall when the leaves change colors. We know it’s the season when Knaus Berry Farm opens, and this year that’s Oct. 31. (Miami.com)

Garbage fire. There is so much trash in South Florida’s canals that you can see it via Google Earth. Booms, which are there to keep dams clear, end up catching a ton of trash that’s pretty much never removed. When the floodgates are opened, some of that ends up in the bay, says VolunteerCleanup.org founder Dave Doebler. (Miami New Times).

Big Brother. Miami Beach is cracking down on crime (although the police department says crimes have actually gone down). First the commission decided to put to a citywide vote the decision to roll back Ocean Drive’s last call. Then it voted to close the public beaches earlier. Now, it’s installing surveillance cameras along Ocean Drive between 5th and 15th Streets. (Miami New Times)

Time out. If you were at the Dolphins game last night, you mighta noticed something missing: more than 100 police officers. Many are refusing to do game detail because they’re angry about players’ national anthem protests, and the police union chief said he’s not going to make them. (Miami Herald)
