The first Women's March on Jan. 21, 2017.

It’s been a crazy 363 days since then. This Sunday, on the one-year anniversary, South Floridians are gathering at Mana Wynwood to talk voter registration, voter suppression, and how to support marginalized communities. Find out more info here.

It’s been a while since we hung out with you, and we’ve added a few members to our team, so it’s time for a meetup! Join us for happy hour next Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Veza Sur Brewing Co. in Wynwood. They’re unveiling a new beer and offering a brewery tour at 7 p.m – plus 20 percent off all drinks for New Tropic readers from 6 to 7 p.m. Deets here.

P.S. Haven’t heard of Veza Sur before? They’re one of the new-ish kids of Wynwood. Learn about their chopp-style beer here.

#Winning. Amazon released the 20 finalists for the location of its second headquarters, and Miami is on it (FYI: The list is in alphabetical order, so don’t read much into where we are on it). Apparently that shocked a lot of people, including one person on Miami’s bid committee. Here’s a look at what some other cities offered. Some of them were pretty extreme. Twitter called it “The Bachelor for tax breaks.” (Miami Herald, CityLab)

So hot right now. Everyone in SoFlo wants in on cryptocurrency. There are more than 45 Bitcoin ATM machines across the state, we have several cryptocurrency meetups, people are starting to sell real estate in the currency, and the North American Bitcoin Conference is happening here today. But what happens if it crashes, like so many say it will? (VICE)

Not worth it. Another person was killed by a Brightline train on Wednesday – the second since it began running a week ago. Police say  the victim was trying to rush across the tracks before the train arrived. Rail safety experts are warning folks that the trains for Brightline, a private high-speed rail, move a lot faster than the ones we’re used to, and that drivers and pedestrians shouldn’t doubt the signals and barriers. (SFBJ)

Don’t drink up. Two years ago, Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection relaxed the state’s water quality standards. Environmentalists and health advocates were not about it, and now Miami-Dade County may join a lawsuit against the new rule. (Miami Herald)

Fallback Friday. Miami Beach got two new historical districts this week in North Beach. That means demolition is now off limits for more than 200 MiMo and Art Deco-style buildings in the neighborhood – the largest designation of historical buildings since 1990. (Miami Herald)

Anotha one. First it was TPS. Now the Trump administration is ending Haitians’ eligibility for a temporary guest worker program used by farmers, hotels, and other seasonal employers to fill their staff. The Department of Homeland Security said it was due to “extremely high rates of refusal… high levels of fraud and abuse and a high rate of overstaying the terms of their H-2 admission.” (Miami Herald)
