You had one job. The government shut down this weekend, and that means a couple things for SoFlo: TSA wait times at Miami International Airport might be longer and Everglades National Park will be missing a couple crucial things. Remember eeronber. Cuban staple Ironbeer has turned 100, and the company, which moved from Havana to Miami after the Cuban Revolution, is looking to freshen up its brand. Right now its biggest market is the older generation that remembers it from their childhood, but if Ironbeer is going to survive, the company says it needs to make some new memories – in Miami. PSA. The flu is bad in Florida this year, but it’s not too late to get the vaccine. (WLRN)

#Resist. If the Trump administration thinks the Haitian community will let recent actions go without a fight, it’s wrong, says Jacques Despinosse, a force in SoFlo Haitian politics. “Trump’s racism is a rallying cry for us Haitians. He’s sorely mistaken if he thinks he’s toying with some uneducated refugees,” he said. Leaders are vowing to push hard on getting folks to register and vote ahead of the next election. (NYT)

Gold medal for participation. Even if Miami doesn’t get Amazon’s second headquarters, it might still be a winner. Making it to the top 20 alone is going to help change the narrative from “fun-in-the-sun city” to “international business capital,” local leaders say. And if we do get it, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez says he expects the HQ to end up in Miami, even though it was a tri-county bid. (Miami Herald, SFBJ)

Don’t race trains. A Brightline train killed another person trying to beat it across the tracks on Friday – the fifth since construction began and the third since it started running a week ago. Sens. Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson are both calling for a federal intervention – even though Brightline says it’s not its fault that people keep trying to outrun the train. (Miami Herald)

Slow your roll. It’s manatee season, so chill on the speeding in waterways near shore. (WLRN)
