We normally wouldn’t start planning our weekend on a Tuesday, but have you SEEN all the festivals going down?

There are some oldies but goodies, like the Miami International Boat Show and the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, but there are also some newer kids on the block, like Art Wynwood, which is seven years old but in a new location – outside Wynwood – for the first time. Miami.com’s got the rundown on all the others going down.

It all comes together in one of the craziest weeks of the year in Miami. Fortunately, Miami.com also gave us these tips on how to survive the “traffic hell” that is President’s Day Weekend.

Underdog status. An FIU researcher took a look at Amazon’s callout for HQ2 proposals from cities to build a list of criteria for the winning city – and decided that Miami is a serious long shot. But other researchers said to be optimistic, because “everyone thought the Patriots would win the Super Bowl.” (SFBJ)

Started at the bottom now we here. BlackTech Week is going national. After another successful year in Miami, it’s going on a 10-city tour to bring the connections and inspiration inspired by the conference to the rest of the U.S. (WLRN)

No bueno. Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in The Roads fired one of its teachers last week for being a woman and marrying another woman. Jocelyn Morffi came back from her wedding in the Florida Keys last week to find out she’d been fired. A spokesperson for the school wouldn’t say much, but she told the Miami Herald that teachers are responsible for the “spiritual growth” of students as well. Florida doesn’t have statewide laws prohibiting discrimination for sexual orientation. Miami-Dade County does but religious institutions are often exempt. (Miami Herald)

Peak parking garage. In true Miami style, the new Design District parking garage,  which is almost open for business,  is SO EXTRA. (The Big Bubble)

Time’s up. Turns out that SoFlo’s strategy for restoring the Everglades, badly hurt by decades of flood control, is no longer working. Sea level rise is happening faster, and researchers say that if wepar’re going to save our super important and majestic River of Grass, we need to go back to the drawing board. (Miami Herald)

Decision time. There’s a reason that Museum Park, sandwiched between the American Airlines Arena and PAMM, is still lookin’ pretty empty years after PAMM and the Frost Museum opened their doors: There are still some major decisions to make about its status. It’s not even officially designated as a park – it’s “surplus land” – and the county is about to make a big decision about whether to preserve it as a park or let a museum honoring the Cuban exile experience take over the space. Dolla dolla bills. Did you know that our county commissioners oversee a $7 billion budget, but only get a $6,000 stipend? If that seems like crazy town to you, you’re not alone. The committee that is reviewing the county charter and suggesting revisions wants the county commission to put a MAJOR raise on the November ballot: to $99,997. Us voters have denied raises like that before, but this is actually pretty similar to what a lot of other local governments offer. (Miami Herald)

You spin me right round baby. At a White House event talking up the Trump administration’s big push on infrastructure improvements, President Trump promised County Commissioner Esteban Bovo – seated just down the table from him – that the federal government will push through whatever approvals the county needs to expand rail “so fast your head will spin.” (Miami Herald)
