Walk it out. Students and faculty across the country will walk out of their schools at 10 a.m. local time today in a massive national protest against national gun laws on Parkland’s one-month anniversary. At least 18 South Florida schools will join the protest. But one Parkland student won’t be part of it – 16-year-old Marjory Stoneman Douglas student Kyle Kashuv has become a lonely, loud voice against gun control. (Sun-Sentinel, Miami Herald)

Last chance. An assault weapons ban didn’t make it into the gun control bill that the Florida legislature passed this session, but the proposal’s not dead yet. The Constitutional Review Commission, which meets every 20 years to propose revisions to the Florida constitution, is accepting proposals right now, and Broward State Sen. Chris Smith is asking it  to consider an assault weapons ban. If the commission accepts the proposal, it will go on the ballot as a referendum in November, like medical marijuana did in 2016. #RealTalk. Local favorite cold-pressed juice company Jugofresh abruptly shut down all its Miami stores Tuesday. Owner Matthew Sherman was super honest about why: “ My lack of experience and the rapid expansion are what ultimately led us to close,” he wrote in an email. That level of honesty is pretty unusual, and even though Jugofresh didn’t work out, we’re giving major props to Sherman for his #realtalk. (Miami New Times, Instagram)

If these walls could talk. Little Havana’s Tower Hotel has been many things: a YMCA, a World War II hospital, a jazz spot, and apartment buildings. Last year, it was turned into an “immersive theater experience” by Juggerknot Theater Company. Next up: it will become the neighborhood’s first boutique hotel, through a partnership with local developer Barlington Group (whose managing partner, Bill Fuller, owns Ball & Chain). They vow to keep Tower Hotel’s history front and center. (Miami Herald)

Touchdown. Liberty City is hitting the small screen in “Warriors of Liberty City,” which will tell the story of the Liberty City Optimist Club football team – and the rising high school stars and NFL pros that emerged from it and the community that built it. The show debuted this weekend at SXSW and will start showing on the Starz channel soon. (Miami New Times)

ICYMI. Last night, Fort Lauderdale elected its first openly gay mayor, Dean Tantralis, and it’s kind of a big deal. He’s not the first in South Florida, though: that honor belongs to Richard Heyman, the mayor of Key West, who was elected in 1983. (Miami Herald, New York Times)
