INTRODUCING WELLNESS WEDNESDAYS

We’ve teamed up with our friends at Baptist Health to take you on a year-long journey to stay healthy through science, food, physical activity, and more, here in this new weekly feature.

To kick things off, we want your healthy Miami recommendations:

  • What’s your favorite spot to grab a healthy-ish meal?
  • Who are your favorite local fitness accounts on Instagram?
  • What’s your go-to workout class we need to know about?

Hit reply to let us know, and we’ll feature the suggestions in next week’s edition.

We’re tagging all our wellness tips with a friendly pineapple, like this one:

🍍Publix pharmacy is offering free flu shots. They’ll also give you a $10 gift card, which is good for anything but obviously should only be used for chicken tender subs.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE 305

Go north, Metrorail. After Miami-Dade leaders battled over extending the Metrorail south earlier this year, the county’s leadership is facing some pressure from the state to extend the railway in the opposite direction. The state’s transportation department recommended extending the rail north along Northwest 27th Avenue up to the Broward County line. That extension could cost more than $1.8 billion, so in the meantime another proposal suggests just extending the rail up to Miami-Dade College’s north campus–for the bargain price of about $870 million . Vice up your life. It’s pretty obvious that Miami loves the Heat’s alternate Vice jerseys, but right now they only wear the gear on special nights. Beyond that it’s usually the team’s regular black, white, or red jerseys. The Miami New Times makes a compelling argument for a permanent change to the Vice jerseys, including noting the multiple other pro sports teams rocking red, black, and white, and the idea of the new swag symbolizing the end of the Dwyane Wade era. A garden of great selfies. Just about every month in Miami it seems like a new Instagram-ready attraction is opening, and in a few weeks it looks like Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will add to that list with their NightGarden. The foliage-filled garden will be illuminated by interactive light displays and the garden will also feature motion-sensing technology, mazes, and plenty of great angles for you and your friends. Out of the park. The infamous home run sculpture at Marlins Park has officially been removed and we have a seven-story hole in our heart. “Homer” was dismantled and removed earlier this week, and the team plans to move the sculpture to a plaza outside the stadium. It likely won’t happen in time for the 2019 season, but at least we’ll have the memories to hold us over. (Miami Herald)
