FOUR THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED, THANKSGIVING CALORIES

Here are some Thanksgiving numbers to impress your guests with:

  • 3,000: That’s the number of calories we’re eating at a typical Thanksgiving dinner
  • 4,500: If you choose to eat breakfast and hors d’oeuvres and drink some wine, that’s how many calories total you’re at for the day– twice the average recommended daily count
  • 3: The number of sticks of butter that equals the amount of fat the average American eats on Turkey day
  • 500: The number of calories per slice of pecan pie, a.k.a. the “biggest calorie bomb of the day.”

So, are we supposed to completely skip those sweet potato empanadas or guava thumbprint cookies or friend pavochón? Nope. There are plenty of ways to hack your way to a delicious and healthy Thanksgiving. Check ‘em out from Baptist Health here.

🍍WORK IT OFF IN ADVANCE: Start your Thanksgiving with the Baptist Health Turkey Trot Miami 5K/10K. There’s still time to register before tomorrow’s race.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE 305

Grab some grub. We know not everyone will be sitting at a big family gathering to commemorate Thanksgiving so here are some places to snag dinner tomorrow, including some spots for the vegans out there. And if those places are a little too fancy for your taste, here’s a reminder that Flanigan’s will be open tomorrow. (Eater Miami, Miami New Times)

Don’t play yourself. If you’re looking to take advantage of Black Friday deals, don’t get caught slipping and show up to the mall too early or too late. And if you’re a real overachiever– or just get tired of your family and friends before dessert– heads up that Dadeland, Dolphin, and Miami International Malls will all be open tomorrow. (Miami.com)

A wild ride… This deep dive takes a look at the two-week saga of the statewide recount in Florida including info on all of the lawsuits, the day-by-day drama of updated vote totals, the party politics and accusations of fraud, and where things stand for the major players involved. (Miami Herald)

… But thankfully it’s over. Despite all the national attention and frenzy over the state’s election recount, the end of the process was quick and easy. The canvassing board for the state’s elections department officially signed off on the final results of the Nov. 6 election and it looks like we’re finally done being the butt of the nation’s jokes… for now. (Tampa Bay Times)

Casting a wide net. After filing a lawsuit against three major opioid makers and distributors, Florida is also suing major drugstore chains Walgreens and CVS because of their alleged role in the national opioid crisis. The suit claims each of Florida’s 754 Walgreens stores ordered more than 1 million doses of oxycodone in 2011, which is more than 10 times the average amount. (NPR)
