🔥We’re grateful for this Miami Heat legend

We're thankful for our incredible New Tropic community who show us every day what it means to #LiveLikeYouLiveHere. (📸: Hector Chacon)

THIS IS WHAT WE’RE THANKFUL FOR

HOW YOU ALL SHOWED UP. No matter how you feel about the results of the 2018 midterms, voter turnout in Miami was awesome compared to previous years. Turnout was nearly 57 percent this year compared to about 41 percent back in 2014. And even beyond voting, we saw so many examples of groups coming together to make the 305 great, like donating on #GiveMiamiDay or supporting the Parkland community earlier this year.

FOR #ONELASTDANCE. Miami sports teams haven’t given us much to cheer about so far this year but at least we’re getting one last season with Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade. Plus, he and his boo Gabrielle Union just had an adorable daughter, so we’ll forgive him for taking a few nights off in his final run with the team.

FOR THE NEW TROPIC’S COMMUNITY PARTNERS. Whether it’s the awesome programming at Wynwood Yard, experimental art at the Maroon Poetry Festival and Raw Pop Up, or the community building work of Radical Partners, the folks we’ve worked with this year have helped to make Miami smarter, be more creative, and have a lot of fun. We want to give a special shout out to the 100 Great Ideas campaign, which focused on finding solutions to make Miami more sustainable and resilient. Because people didn’t hold back on tough conversations, it was super inspiring and dozens of participants had really innovative ideas. Check out the Facebook group and convo here.

FOR LIVING LIKE YOU LIVE HERE. To our New Tropic readers who have referred the most number of new readers, Daniela Molina, Ashley Cover, Margaux Herrera, and so many others who have been ambassadors for what we do here: We appreciate you spreading the ❤️.

We also want to thank all of you who hung out with us doing a yoga scavenger hunt on Lincoln Road, grabbing a few brews at Veza Sur or talking a tour through historic Overtown. We appreciate being able to enjoy and experience this city right along with y’all– it’s one of the best ways to #LiveLikeYouLiveHere.

FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT: Believe it or not this is our 1000TH newsletter that we’re sending out and we’re so so grateful for your support. We’ll let reader Johann Ali have the last word here with a nice note he sent us recently: “Your work has made my own day-to-day better, more informed and more connected to my city. #LiveLikeYouLiveHere isn’t just a hashtag – it’s VERY real.”

WE’LL SEE YOU ON MONDAY…

… for our 1,001st newsletter.
