You don’t have to travel north for the arts

When Hurricane Andrew devastated Cutler Bay and surrounding areas, the federal government set aside money to help rebuild the southern end of the county. The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center was born as part of these rebuilding efforts. Since 2011, it’s been the mission of the SMDCAC to provide various opportunities for the community to gather around dance, theater, music and comedy — for a price that won’t break the bank.

You can visit the cultural arts center by bus, too (transit tip: 3 min. walk from SW 211 St. & SW 112 Ave.; bus routes 31, 38). The bus stop is only a short walk from the center, and it’s and excellent place to wrap up your day exploring the stops along the South Dade Transitway.
