Taylor the Chef is serving up books in Omni Park

You know her as “Taylor The Chef,” but 11-year-old Taylor Moxey is also a budding librarian. She’s brought the same energy from her baking TED@Youth Miami talk to the container library she’s built in Omni Park.

Taylor is a pretty accomplished 11 year-old. She cooked ‘TacObamas with Guacashelle’ for former President Barack Obama and wife Michelle at nine years old, has already published her first book, baked with celebrity Chrissy Teigen, and now she’s installed two public mini-libraries through her foundation – one in the Bahamas, and one in Downtown Miami.

What were you doing in elementary school?

Motivated by her dad’s reading disorder, dyslexia, the wonder-kid chef and librarian started the Taylor Moxey Foundation to empower young girls and inspire reading. Bored on vacation in the Bahamas, her dad inspired her to make her own library for the community’s kids. Once she got home to Miami, she decided to do it again, but this time bigger.

Her public library inside of Omni Park is in a donated shipping container that Taylor and her family turned into a nook with bookshelves and space for people to read.

Taylor constantly visits her library, but when she isn’t busy being the chairwoman of her foundation, she’s baking cupcakes or cookies, whipping up some ceviche (which she says is her fave Miami thing to make), or just trying to make it to ballet class on time.
