Whether this will be your first 5K or you already have a stack of medals on your wall, here are a few upcoming races you can add to your calendar (register now to save some $$$):
Sept. 21, 2019
You’ll definitely get dirty on this trail. The Miami Trail Festival takes runners (you can choose to run either 3, 5, or 10 miles) through the trails of Virginia Key and all of its ocean views, historical landmarks, and photogenic parks. Later in the day, mountain bikers, with categories ranging from juniors to expert-level riders, will take over the trails.
Sept. 22, 2019
Taking place in Pinecrest’s Evelyn Greer Park, you’ll have the choice to either “rock” or “run” for this event. Rockers will sign up for a cardio-blasting dance class; runners will tackle a 5K. What makes this event special is that it is organized by breast and ovarian cancer survivors and friends and family of survivors. The non-profit hosts the annual event to raise money for women’s health organizations.
Halloween Half Marathon and Freaky 4-Miler
Oct. 26, 2019
Think of this race as a trial run for any upcoming zombie apocalypse. Runners (costumes optional, but highly encouraged) hit Miami Beach and have the option of participating in a half marathon or a four-mile run. All finishers receive a Halloween-themed medal. Past designs have included vampires, skeletons, zombies, and werewolves. Spooky.
Nov. 28, 2019
Thanksgiving seems like months away (because it is) but now is the time to get an early bird deal on race registration for this year’s annual Turkey Trot Miami 5K/10K. The festive and family-friendly event has runners flocking together in turkey hats and participating in post-event activities like corn hole, turkey bowling, and selfies with 20-foot turkey named Perky Turkey.
Nov. 17, 2019
If downing a free post-run beer and noshing on baby back ribs is more your vibe, you’ll want to add the Flanigan’s Rockin’ Rib Run to your race radar. Flanigans, a South Florida institution, sponsors the yearly race that takes place in Davie. Encourage your non-running friends to tag along so they can cheer you on and also enjoy beer, ribs, and wine for $10. Register for the race by Aug. 31 to save a few bucks.
