Today’s how-to: Spend a day in Cutler Bay

Let’s go exploring in Cutler Bay!

First we need to get brunch at Pubgrill (Transit stop: 7 min walk from SW 112 Ave & # 20760; Bus routes 31, 38) and experience their weekly rotating specials. Beloved by locals, this rotating menu brings guests back again and again, and it’s easy to see why with specials that step outside the pub cuisine wheelhouse, leaving you satisfied but not bogged down.

Now let’s see how thrifty we can be and check out the Ruth Kinsman Thrift Shop (Transit stop: 1 min walk from SW 87 Ave. & SW 193 Ter.; bus route 200) located inside the East Ridge at Cutler Bay retirement community. It’s only open on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., but donations come from residents who have downsized their homes so you know all the finds here come with amazing stories.

Now, if you didn’t pick up a giant wooden figurine or some heavy trinket, let’s head over to Lakes By the Bay Park (Transit stop: 10 min walk from SW 216 St & SW 87 Pl; Bus route 200). This massive 45-acre Miami Dade Park has multiple sports fields, a playground, bike trails, and more. If it’s a bit too hot to roam around aimlessly, maybe swing over to Cutler Ridge Park and Pool (Transit stop: 9 min walk from Caribbean Bd & Coral Sea Rd; Bus route 1) instead to escape the heat.

At this point your appetite has most likely come back and you’re ready for some fuel. Close to our final stop you’ll find Down South BBQ Rib Shack (Transit stop: 1 min walk from SW 216 St & 112 Ave; Bus routes 38, 35), an authentic southern-style barbecue joint. This place is no frills and all about the ‘cue, which is what matters most when you’re craving ribs, wings, and more. Fill up and get ready to take a short walk across the street to our final stop, the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center.

Wrap up your day with a performance at South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (Transit stop: 5 min walk from SW 211 St & SW 112 Ave; Bus routes 31, 38) — granted you should probably plan ahead and get tickets in advance. They’ve got movies, a comedy night, dance and musical performances, and much more. Package and subscription deals are also available. With programming happening almost daily, you might luckout if you just randomly show up, but with such a wide range of offerings it’s best you plan to find something that really excites you.
