Try this: Join a run with Doral Run Club

GO TO THIS: The new Downtown Doral Run Club, launched June 3, is free and open to anyone who wants to run. Director of Life Time Marathon Race Frankie Ruiz launched the new running club, making it his eighth club to date.

“It’s been a few years now since we launched the other seven Run Clubs that runners have been asking us to expand the Run Club concept to Doral,” Ruiz said. “We waited a bit to find the right location to meet up and work with the existing groups to find the best day of the week.”

WHY TO TRY IT: You’ll never be able to back out if it’s raining.

“We will never cancel for weather, the only adjustments will be made for major holidays,” Ruiz said. “We like to say we are #allweather or #weatherproof or #rainorshine.”

Ruiz said the club isn’t intimidating and it’s a judgment-free zone.

“We truly believe that running is a form of service to your neighbors,” he said. “Just showing up and running can inspire to motivate others to start or just to keep going.”

MOST SURPRISING FACT: There’s no charge. There’s no traditional membership, which means the only thing you need to do is show up.

“In order to fund the organization, staff and other costs we depend on the support of both local businesses and even global companies,” Ruiz said. “Our largest partners right now include Baptist Health, Nike, DeliverLean, Nescafe, DDA, Life Time and Fortune International.”

For Doral, the club is named the Baptist Health Downtown Doral Run Club.

HOW TO TRY IT: You don’t need to be a “runner” to get involved. Ruiz said avid runners have a route about 3 to 3.5 miles, while beginners have a 20 minute program. The first week welcomed 150 runners of various ages and abilities.

Join the group every Monday at 7 p.m. at the Skyros Sports running store: 5335 NW 87th Ave c101, Doral, FL 33178.
