From yoga, to Zumba, to running clubs across the city, there is no shortage of opportunities to get fit. So if you’re ready to get active and sweat it out, join one of the free class below:
On the last Friday of every month, you can join cyclists, inline skaters, skateboarders, and other wheel-based riders (maybe even a unicycle or two) for a 15-mile trek around Miami. For more on guidelines and tips for the free ride, head over to the Miami Bike Scene site. Visit the Miami Critical Mass Facebook page for details on the next monthly event.
Baptist Health Zumba & Run Clubs
Baptist Health offers a wide range of free fitness classes to the South Florida community. Two of the more popular programs are the Zumba classes and run clubs.
Zumba is offered in two locations in West Kendall and a couple of other spots in the county – check out the full list of locations and class schedule. The run clubs meet regularly all over the city. From Brickell, to Homestead, to South Beach, you won’t be running alone, especially with the 600 plus weekly attendees. Learn more about the clubs.
If yoga is more your scene, consider stopping by 3rd Street Beach Yoga. They offer a free twice-daily class on Miami Beach at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. (they adjust the schedule to 5 p.m. starting in November). They meet behind the lifeguard station on the beach at 3rd street and recommend you bring a blanket for the 60-to-90 minute class. Donations are encouraged.
After you chow down on your regular breakfast, head over to Maurice Ferre Park for dessert. Every Wednesday at 6:20 a.m., the GoRun Project leads the group workout session and encourages you to ditch the treadmill in the gym and to hit the stairs. The GoRun Project has a couple of other classes including 5K training, swim training, and Obstacle training. Head over to their Meetup page for full details.
Once a month, two fitness trainers lead a free workout class at The Citadel that’ll have you sweating, stretching, and sweating some more. After this month’s class, one attendee will win a Fitbit device to track their future progress. Bring a yoga mat and join their Facebook page for full details.
