💧What Miami is talking about

Lap dances: are they ok? Should we still be giving and/or receiving them in the midst of a global pandemic? According to Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Giminez, the answer is a firm, unambiguous no. Giminez’s declaration on late-night thrills arrived, well, late Tuesday night following conflicting reports on whether or not erotic performances were still permissible under Miami’s reopening plans. Somewhere, Drake is shedding a tear.

Speaking of after-hours alterations: All Miami dining establishments seating eight or more people must now be closed between midnight and 6 a.m. The new curfew took effect at 12 last night (or is that this morning?)

Continuing this late-night news thread, Gov. Ron DeSantis extended Florida’s moratorium on evictions and foreclosures mere hours before it was due to expire yesterday. Although many Miamians and much of Florida can now breathe a sigh of relief, the problem at hand — how are people going to pay their rent during an economic and public health crisis without additional assistance? — remains. South Florida activist groups such as the Palm Beach Tenants Union are calling on DeSantis and state legislators to put additional protections in place for tenants facing homelessness.

If you’ve ever pet your problems away with a furry friend, make sure to check out The Cat’s Meow Café. The long-awaited coffee shop-meets-adoption shelter held its grand opening on Miami’s Upper Eastside over the weekend, and according to Carolina del Busto with Miami New Times, it was a purr-fect success (sorry). Whether you’re trying to cuddle with cats or simply get caffeinated, this is the place to be.
