kelly montoya members

Today we’re continuing our series on the people who make what we do possible — you, our supporting members. ❤️ Today we’re featuring downtown Miami’s Kelly Montoya!

Where in town might people run into you?

Hanging out with @barley.pickles at Museum Park and dog-friendly happy hour spots (The Standard, Lost Boy, Concrete Beach), at my favorite Miami Classpass studios (Barry’s Bootcamp and [solidcore]), or scouting out the best tacos and mezcal in Miami. Currently obsessed with El Santo Taqueria, Los Altos, Proyecto Tulum, Caja Caliente, and of course my long-time favorite Coyo Taco.

What made you decide to become a member of The New Tropic?

Reading the New Tropic email is a part of my Monday morning ritual. I feel much more connected with all the happenings in Miami and constantly inspired to get out, do more, and support all the amazing talent and entrepreneurial activity in our city. I find myself sharing the email with colleagues and loved ones all the time, so I just wanted to show a little love back because this type of storytelling makes me happy and it needs to keep on going.

What’s something you’re working on that you could use help with?

Currently working on hosting a new series called The Planner’s Collection Workshop. These are intimate gatherings of industry professionals taking an evening to talk shop + network + learn + find ways to collaborate with each other all the while featuring new spaces and venues in Miami.

Always looking to collaborate with professionals that have a fresh approach to doing business and want to share best practices or innovative tools with the community. I’m also looking to partner up with small spaces and venues willing to host us and local food vendors that would like to offer their hospitality. If this is up your alley, please reach out to me  [email protected], so we can make all the magic happen.

What local business do you think deserves a shoutout ?

Shout out to Concrete Beach for brewing the best beer in Miami, always having a good vibe, and offering @barley.pickles a space to host a beagle meet up party and bring dog lovers together. Miami Flower Market and Kuupottery for hosting hands-on classes that fuel my creativity. El Carajo for making the most killer empanadas and cafecitos in Miami.

What’s a local event you went to recently that you loved?

The Goldish Oasis sunset yoga + sound healing community class at the Faena Bazaar was everything I needed. A beautiful space to quiet the mind, settle the body, take things a little slower, and reflect on all the amazing things we should be thankful for. I wish I could catch the sunset there every day.

What are you celebrating in your life right now?

I finally mustered up the courage to take my side hustle to the next level by officially turning it into a business, so I am celebrating the launch of The Planner’s Collection, an event and design agency.

I’m also celebrating everything about life since I am turning 30 soon, and that’s pretty rad.
